1.2 Motivations: Theoretical and Practical

There are more reasons for CLASPnet of course than just the desire to fill the historical gap mentioned in 1.0 above. They can be divided into two groups -- be it somewhat artificially -- by using the terms 'theoretical' and 'practical': the two theoretical reasons underlie my choice for using connectionist models in general, whereas the two practical ones have had implications for the concrete implementation of CLASPnet.
